“Leave nothing behind but footprints.....take nothing away but memories..”

As with most things, the impact that we have on the environment around us can be very real.  A gate left open can result in a farmer’s animals wandering loose, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and potentially accidents with disastrous consequences.  Crops can also be irreparably damaged if footpaths and boundaries are not adhered to, and dropped rubbish spoils the beauty for everyone.  Within certain environments, particularly coastal areas and mudflats, there is also a risk of personal harm if you don’t keep an eye on the tides or overhead hazards such as rock slides.

The world around us is an amazing place, but please enjoy it responsibly and safely

There are some great books and guides out there providing information that will help you to get the most out of the outdoors - I’d recommend the following for starters:

The Amateur Naturalist - Gerald Durrell

Simon King’s Wildguide - Simon King (BBC)

There are also many more online resources to help you on your way, some of these are referenced in the Links section of this site
